Please share a memory of Gertrude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gertrude “Trudy” Killeen of Nashua, NH formally of East Norwich, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 with family by her side. Trudy is survived by her husband of 72 years Bob Killeen, daughter Susan and son-in-law Craig Nylund of Levittown, NY, daughter Karen and son-in-law Fred LoPiano of Nashua NH, daughter-in-law Jane Killeen of Groton MA, predeceased by son Robert in 2005 and twin sister MaryJane in 2014. Trudy was also predeceased by her beloved cat Choosey in 2020.Trudy was born July 11, 1924 and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY by parents Gudrun (Eliasen) and Harry Kadrisky. Trudy met her future husband, Bob Killeen, while working at Hunt Winterbotham, LTD in Manhattan. They were married on June 16, 1951. Soon after, Bob joined the Marines and they moved to North Carolina. Trudy and Bob welcomed a son while stationed at Camp Lejeune. After returning to Bay Ridge, NY they had two daughters. In 1960 they bought their first home in Hicksville, Long Island, NY. In 1966 they bought a home in East Norwich, Long Island, NY where they raised their family. In 2013 Trudy and Bob sold their home and purchased a condo at Sky Meadow in Nashua, NH near their daughter and son-in- law. While Trudy’s children were too young for school she worked as a Welcome Wagon “hostess”, introducing new movers to the neighborhood and bringing gift baskets. When her children were older, Trudy worked for the IRS as a revenue officer/supervisor where she earned many awards and commendations. Trudy loved to work and the socialization that came with it. Trudy enjoyed sewing and was quite skilled at it. Reading was a passion having stated “if there was nothing to read, I’d read the labels of soup cans.” Trudy had an ear for music and loved to dance to any song with a good beat, preferably rock music. After retiring in 1990 Trudy and Bob spent a few months at a time at their condo on Hutchinson Island, FL. They found enjoyment in taking cruises with family and friends. They cruised to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama Canal and Alaska, to name a few. In Alaska they took a helicopter to the top of a glacier. She said “of all the places I’ve traveled to, Alaska would be the one I’d go back to.” Trudy was 99 years and 9 months “young”. Age did not tamp down her adventurous spirit; at the age of 87 she went parasailing and at 97 years took her first motorcycle ride! She loved the motorcycle so much that she went again at 98 and 99 years old. As a friend said, “Trudy…the legend, the rock star.” Trudy was as beautiful inside as out, easy to laugh and love. She will be deeply missed. In 2017 Bob moved into a memory unit and Trudy made the decision to move to Nashua Crossings Assisted Living with her cat, Choosey. She truly loved living there enjoying the music, activities and camaraderie with the staff and residents. Words cannot express the family’s gratitude to the entire staff of Nashua Crossings. The care and love shown to Trudy was unmistakable.
