Obituary of Ellen M. Minet
Ellen McDonald Minet died Sunday following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Minet. Mrs. Minet was born on April 23, 1925, in rural Virginia. Her father was a farmer and a presbyterian minister. She was the youngest of four siblings. Mrs. Minet obtained her BA and MA in music education from Columbia University, and she spent her career teaching music in local public schools. She was an accomplished classical pianist. After college Mrs. Minet and her husband moved to Oyster Bay. She lived in the same house since 1951. Mrs. Minet was an avid vegetable and flower gardener. She was an expert on roses, and once starred in a Miracle Grow television commercial. She was a long-time volunteer head rosarian at the Planting Fields Arboretum of the Coe estate. For a number of years Mrs. Minet served her community as a council woman in local government. She was a dedicated swimmer, and she and her husband were avid sailors. The Minets were married for 60 years. Mrs. Minet was a beloved resident of her neighborhood, and neighbors became life-long friends. Mrs. Minet is survived by six nieces and nephews.
