I spent the summer of '69 in Jamaica,NY, right around the corner from Uncle Al's office and would almost daily tap on his front glass. Although a busy man, he would always smile and walk over to unlock the door. After sending me across the street for his ice coffee I would sit and watch him type contracts and search through piles of papers stacked across his desk, when asked about the disarray he said "never trust a man with clean desk". On the weekends he would drive me out to stay in Bayville and we would talk about life and faith and family and when things started to get too serious he would interject with a fantastic sense of humor like "look at that poor soul..we should give him a dollar" as we passed a limousine on the road. The times with Aunt Doris and Uncle Al and my cousins are some the best memories of my childhood and adolescence. As I watch the photos scroll above I know without doubt that he was a very blessed man and adds validation to the fact that at the end of it all, the things that matter most in life are not "things" at all. RIP Uncle Al.

Oh, wow...what to say about "Uncle Al"...He was my cousin Doris' hubby and I always called them Aunt and Uncle...I was young and they were grown-ups...Al was so much a mainstay; someone to look up to; someone who always made us feel right at home even though we came from all over to visit their very comfortable, welcoming household; He will surely be missed! I was so sorry to learn this afternoon of the passing of "Uncle Al". He was a great man with a warm heart, a generous spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. I always loved visiting the Cirignanos on Oak Point Drive and sharing in the home and family life that Uncle Al and Aunt Doris created together. Witnessing how much he cherished his family was an honor and an inspiration. My heartfelt thoughts and love are with my cousins during this very sad time. My uncle was one of the most generous people I have ever known. Whether there was 5 or 50 people at his table, he always picked up the tab....ALWAYS. He and my Aunt Doris would host 50 people at their home for holidays and made it look easy..
He was one of the luckiest worst drivers I have ever ridden with. He'd go barreling up to green lights with all he had, only to stop on a dime as the red lights caught him. He'd be balancing coffee in his right hand while trying to read the NY Times lying on the front seat, steering the mammoth Cadillac with his left pinkie and then, suddenly, jutting out his right elbow to prevent me from hurtling through the windshield.
He was also responsible for one of the greatest acts of kindness in my life: convincing my father that I could not live in Jamaica and had to come live with he and my aunt and my five cousins to complete high school.
I never forgot that. I'll never forget him and I and my family will miss him always.
