Ray was my very good friend, and stepfather from adolescence into adulthood - half my life. He got me my first job, and by such into a crowd of great people, laid back and fun just like him. When I was accepted into college, he said let's celebrate and we spontaneously went to see my favorite singer who happened to be playing in the city, but even better was when Ray Davies came out and played Lola. Ray also invited me to see Ratdog once at the Beacon Theater, which felt like stepping into his world. We did a lot of big things like that - including jumping into a swimming hole in Gaysville, VT. But I wish I could go over with him all of the million regular things, like driving to Checkers during work, or watching the Tsunami documentary with him, or visiting him at the building with the giant Buddha statue, or when stuff in life could have come right out of Serendipity. I'm very lucky to have had Ray in my life.

I only met Ray one time, but that was enough to realize what a truly unique, kind, and special man he was. He's not the kind of person one ever forgets. I can only begin to imagine how much he will be missed by all those who knew him and loved him and especially his family. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you as you mourn his passing.

I only knew Ray for about 4 years, but his generosity, his kindness, his honesty, his boundless sense of humor, his wit, his selflessness left a profound impression on me. He loved life, and lived by taking care of others. One of his catchphrases was "Don't be bashful." Ray said that all the time because he was always offering whatever he had, anything to do something for someone else. And he didn't want anyone to feel too bashful to accept his endless acts of kindness. Though he lives on in spirit, his physical presence will be missed.

Ray, you were the one who was influential in changing my brother John Recchio's life. You went on a ski trip to Jackson Hole and he loved it so much he stayed and decided to call that place his home. That was over 20 years ago! I remember our many ski trips to Hunter. You and John would hit the experts first run of the day! I really wanted to keep up but you two just flew. I loved those trips. You were so much fun. Always laughing and so good natured. I also remember you and John spending countless hours snowboarding down the pit wall in East Norwich. I know I speak on behalf of John on how very sad he is right now. Ray, rest in peace and peace to your friends and family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace Ray. Although I only enjoyed your company a few times, I remember how funny you were and always made me laugh. I remember how you went out of your way for me to buy something many years ago from a place that you worked part-time. That purchase always reminded me of you. I am so sad for your friends and family and especially for my dear friend Deb. You will always be remembered.
