Placilla, Melford J. - on July 27, 2009, age 81, of Bayville, LI. Beloved husband of the late Therese. Loving father of Melford (Kathleen), William (Debra), Charlotte, and Timothy (Margaret). Cherished grandfather of Christina Peller (Ryan), Kelly, Justin, Sarah Harris (Chris), Benjamin (Kelly), Marlo Ransdell (Joel), Clint Edwards, Stephanie Lane, Caroline Lane, Kevin, and Thomas. Proud great grandfather of Brooke, Jack, Max, Hailey, Joel, and Josh. Dear brother of Richard (Margie), Trudy, and the late Donald, and Betty Horn. Also survived by loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was a devoted Nassau County Police Sergeant for many years, Retired Chief of the Cove Neck Police Dept., Past President of Bayville Fire Company, and a member of the Robert H. Spittel American Legion Post 1285.
