The only word that truly describes Mr. McDonald in my mind is genuine. Even though I only had him as a teacher my senior year, I feel that his lessons will stick with me through out the rest of my college years.
I’m sure that all other graduates of ’07 would agree with me that graduation would have NEVER been the same with out Mr. McDonald’s intense rehearsals, or with out him there by our sides guiding us the whole way….. You will be truly and genuinely missed by the class of ‘07 Mr. McDonald.. RIP <3

Words can not describe the sadness the news of Mr. McDonald's death brought to me. He was truely a great man and one of the best teachers I have ever had. He will be missed greatly. My finale comment is something that one would not think of unless you really knew Mr. McDonald from a students point of view. This year marked the death of a comic book icon; Captain America. I find it ironic that Mr. McDonald and Captain America died in the same year because in the world of comics, no one brought more inspiration to the people then Captain America. I feel that Mr. McDonald was our Captain America in that same way. He inspired many students to be all they could be.

Teaching a bunch of 17 year olds to read out loud with a hint of interest is hard enough, nevermind getting them to appreciate what it is they are reading. Mr. McDonald was indeed a one man play..would have been great for those books-on-tape. It's because of him that I know what iambic pentameter and dramatic irony is. I catch myself labeling something in life as dramatic irony thinking everyone knows what that is. I stop at that moment and think of Mr. McDonald. He drove me home one time after a school band /choir concert when no one in my family had come that night. It was snowing and he was very kind to have done that. I am also an English buff who would love to teach like he did and be respected like he is, once I am gone. RIP.

I have known Mr. McDonald for many years, having taught with him at LaSalle in my first years as a teacher and again for the past 10 years at St. Dominic. Mr. McDonald was a teacher is every possible sense of the word. As anyone he taught can attest, he expected and demanded the best from every one of his students. However, he also demanded the best from himself. He was always willing to go the extra mile for any student who needed his help, and he quietly gave so much of himself to the St. Dominic community, being of service in so many ways that went unnoticed (just as he would have wanted them to). Many are the graduates who have returned to say that although they may not have appreciated it when they were Juniors or Seniors in his classroom, he left them more than prepared for the challenges that faced them in college. And that is the only tribute he would value more than any.

I graduated La Salle Military Academy in 1987, and have such fond memories of Brother Mike. I had him for sophmore English and he breathed such life and passion into the coursework. I will never forget his readings to us of Shakespeare and Beowulf...it was like a one man play! It was so entertaining that he transferred his love for literature to all of us. He was demanding but always fair and compassionate. He truly brought the best out of all of us. I wish I could attend the service this weekend, but I offer my prayers to his family. I will never forget him. God bless.

"Thanks for all your work." Frequent words uttered by Mr. McDonald. The world has lost a kind, caring, genuinely concerned, appreciative man. I am sure that there is no way to surely do him justice with adjectives. His personality was apparent to all who knew him. You knew that he cared about every word you had to say. Mr. McDonald was there whenever you needed him, a perennial volunteer committing countless hours to the betterment of student programs and students! He could always be counted on in any situation with or without a thank-you or other reward. He loved being in the classroom and it showed. His love for learning is something that inspired me and his honesty is something I truly admire.
I have had the happiness of knowing Mr. McDonald for 7 years, any of which I would not trade for anything. He was not just a full-time teacher, but a full-time exceptional human being and friend. I hope to convey all the lessons he taught me throughout the rest of my days. He will forever be my favorite teacher. I know he'll watch over us all.
God Bless Mr. McDonald.

Mr. McDonald taught both Tim and Mary. He has been a light in our lives for over 10 years. For a man to be loved by so many children and to have never had his own is a wonderful thing. As St. Patrick's parishioners and living in Huntington it was always an absolute pleasure seeing and speaking to him at Mass on Sundays and at the supermarket. He always had a smile and a good word for us. He truly cared about all of his kids. He taught my children so much about life and of course English. We were all devastated by the news. I had Mr. McDonald for my last two years at St. Dominics. Every student held a high respect for him, especially those he taught. During class he would act out scenes from Monty-Python and was constantly combing his hair over with his hands. To emphasis a point to our class he would pull his glasses down onto his nose and stare at us. He made sure we analized each sentence in every single book we read. This man impacted my life more than he could have known. He will truly be missed and I am greatful for all that he has taught me!!

To say that Mr. McDonald wasn't an awesome teacher would be a lie. He was, quite possibly, the most interesting English teacher I had the pleasure of meeting. Each day, he would undergo his eccentric ways of teaching us about the history of English. And during this period, he would imitate the different languages that English derived from. This always made me smile because he had his one-of-a-kind way of teaching that could never be mimicked. He created his own style that would be kept in my heart forever. It's saddening to lose such an interesting person and teacher at the height of his life.

"Hate me now, love me later". Mr. McDonald was one of the best teachers I had at St. Dominic. Although most students were scared to walk by his room in fear of a uniform violation- his students knew him as a kind, passionate teacher who would go to great lengths to make sure their writing skills improved. At the beginning of his class I struggled with writing thesis statements however, by the time I graduated I was able to write a decent paper. His advice has followed me to college and has earned me an A in my writing course. I was looking forward to seeing him over Thanksgiving break to tell him the great news and thank him. I have had the privilege of having Mr. McDonald as teacher for both my English class as well as a journalism class. A true scholar himself, he did more than just teach how to interpret and write. He taught how to take and receive emotion from words. I can actually remember him explaining how movies are no more than projections on a screen and sound, yet they make us laugh, cry, and have us on the tip of our seat. This is what he showed us; there is more to take from things, not just words, from anything. I also remember him saying that he will be that challenging teacher, but one day we would look back afterwards and understand that his tough critiquing would help us write better papers in college and beyond. I can personally say that he was absolutely right and it is unfortunate that future students will not be able to take what he had to offer. I believe that as a student of his, that I should gratefully use the skills that he has helped me unveil as homage.

Mr. McDonald, you were strict yet fair, tough yet kind, an overall passionate teacher and an incredible human being. Through your example and holding you as a role model, all future educators from your classes hope to impact and inspire the way you have done. You have left a mark on the lives of all of you students, leaving us with your love of education. Mr. McDonald we will never forget you. Thank you for everything and you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and my deepest sympathy for your current students.
