There so many things I remember like the Easter egg hunt in your back yard. I know Bette was waiting for you to welcome you into Heaven. Please say hello to all of our relatives that have gone to heaven. Oh Grand ma as I sit and type this the tears are flowing down. Each one is saying how much I love you and how much I will miss you. My heartfelt sympathies are extended to the entire James family.
Your family is such a warm, classy, dignified group of people, who always make your friends feel as if they are an extended family member. Your family members treat everyone, regardless of their demeanor or circumstance, with fairness, love and respect. I am one of the friends who your family always makes feel like “family”. I feel blessed that I have been able to spend time with all of you. I give thanks to my extraordinary friend Bette for that privilege.
Those qualities are not random when it comes to an entire family they are a learned behavior. The behavior was passed on to all of you from your matriarch, Mrs. Rebecca James. Mrs. James, “Spoke softly but carried a big stick” – such an admirable quality. What a beautiful, strong, woman she was who shaped the lives of multiple generations of your family. How blessed all of you were to have her be a part of your lives.
There is obviously not a good time or way for someone who you love to die, but Mrs. James died peacefully, in her sleep, in her new home. I hope that brings all of you some measure of peace. I pray you will all draw upon the strength and love of each other and all of those friends who are “family” during this difficult time.
May your prayers mend your hearts and your memories of her stay strong. You are all in my prayers.
Mrs. James I will miss you. I’ll miss the way your entrance into the room always received the love, adoration, and respect of everyone in the room. I will miss your beautiful smile and warm hug that greeted me every time I saw you. I am sure Bette never told you this but each time I saw you I would remark to Bette “Your Mom is so cute!” and she would laugh. God bless you! Love Iris Williams & Family

Ma, When I think of you I think of family. I’ve never known a woman who is more loving and giving. I will always remember the homemade rolls, pies, jelly and clothes. The temperature was in the 50’s today, but true to form I didn’t have on any socks or a sweater. I will miss you and miss hearing you say “Home again, home again Jiggety Jig”. Love your daughter Patti

Dear Mamma,
Well we didn't pay attention when you made the crabapple jelly. If you could have seen us trying to finish what you had started. It took Lorraine, Martha, Laura, Claudette and me to finish it. Well have to wait and see how it comes out; I know it won't be like yours. What a fiasco!
I remember once when I was a teenager, it was Labor Day and we could see the park filling up with people. You rolled the ringer washer over to the sink and hooked it up and you told me to go get the laundry. I said, but Ma it's Labor Day and you said "yes and we labor on". You sometimes came up with the wittiest sayings. What an inspiration you have been to me, I wish I could be more like you.
I will always love you. Rest in peace Ma, your daughter Frances

I remember growning up and always being in trouble. I would go to school she would say "remember when you come home you Will get a whipping". She let me play, do homework and eat dinner. When it was time to go to bed she said don't you remember what I said this morning? That meant go to the weeping willow tree, pull a branch and take the whipping. All the whippings I took and even the punishments by being put in the cellar has made me the person I am today. I am proud to be one of Rebecca's son and proud of the person I have become. I hope she is proud of me???? I do miss you MA.
Love Hank and Gale

Mama,
I enjoyed our walks to the park and going in the evening to listen to the different concerts. I enjoyed our walks to the Oyster Bay High School and all our other walks around town. Thanks for giving me my faith and my upbringing in church. I enjoyed going to church with you every Sunday. When no one else was around, I enjoyed our time together, just the two of us. I enjoyed all the vacations we took together and all the interesting thinkgs we saw. I will miss our daily walks, but while I'm walking you will be in my thoughts. I miss you. Love always your daughter, Lorraine.

As a long time friend of Virginnia Lorraine, I had the good fortune of spending time with Mrs. James on several occasions. My favorite memory is of the time she visited my home in the Poconos. I can still see her, clear as day, sitting on my deck and enjoying the view. As I enjoy that view in the future, I will always think of "Ma".

What a priveledge and an honor to have known ``Miss Rebecca``. She was the epitome of strength, family and most of all Love. A faithful woman of God who has passed that legacy of faith and love down through generations and generations to come. I,am joyful because I, know that when she closed her eyes to take her well deserved rest, that God, our Father, received her into His loving arms and said....``Well done, thou Good and Faithful servant``.
On behalf of myself and my parents Rev. and Mrs. David A. Hunt, Sr. and our entire family. We would like to extend our deepest love and sympathy to the entire James Family, in your hour of sorrow.
With Love,

Mama,
I want to thank you for being the wonderful, thoughtful, considerate, compassionate mother anyone could ask for. Thank you for all the quite times we had, the talks, the laughs and the tears. Thank you for always being there and believing in me. Thanks for teaching me and my siblings how to share and get along together and with others. You taught us to love unconditionally, regardless of race or religion. You valued each one of your children and were always bragging about us and your grandchildren. I will always love you and I miss you. Sleep tight and I know your other children that have passed before you are now rejoicing and welcoming you home. Until I see you again. Love always, your daughter Laura.
