Vincent J. Sarli
March 30, 1965 – July 16, 2006
Vinny, you’re a butterfly passing by,
a bright star in the sky.
It’s your way of saying “Hello”
and not “Goodbye.”
We know you are with Jesus
and on a new journey.
You are happy … at peace now
so we need not worry.
A son, a father, a brother, a friend
we can’t wait to see you
in Heaven again.
So we’ll look for the signs
and won’t let them pass by
because we know it’s you Vinny
just coming to say “Hi.”
Forever in our hearts,
Your Loving Family & Friends

Vinny, mom and I wrote to you on your Birthday, but the letters from the site were erased somehow. I am writing you again to tell you that we went out to an awesome Italian resturant. We raised our glasses off to you but I'm sure you were already there!! We listened to Glenns and Drews song sang to you on the CD. We told stories, we cried, we laughed, we ate, we ate some more....Mom said you like cannolies so we celebrated by eating those instead of a Birthday Cake. Made homemade just like Grandma or whoever made them when we were little. Well, mom is with Emily this week in Coco Beach for Easter. Mom gave her some pictures of "Vinny's Place" and I gave her some of Mom and the Easter Bunny ,Joey,Gary,Dad and Grandma and a shot of you, Joey and I when we were no more than 6 or 7. We were the cutest kids!!!!!!! Now the three of us are Old Farts!!:):) Gosh I Miss You. I Love You Vinny. Love Jus XXOO

Dear Marianne, Gary, Justine and Joseph:
I am so sorry to hear of Vincent's passing. I only learned the sad news moments before boarding a plane to visit my mom who is ill. Had I not been with my mother, I would have been there for all of you. All of you, including Vincent were there for me, and cared for me after my accident many years ago. You are a strong, loving and compassionate family. I know you will all be there to comfort one other and give each other strength. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with Vincent and each one of you. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.

Such sad news to hear from so far away. Our memories of the heyday of Syosset are filled with "Vinny stories". Your incredible charisma and your flair for the dramatic made hanging with you an adventure. Vinny, you are truly unforgettable. You will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all of us. You probably won't rest (too boring), but may you find your final peace. Our deepest sympathies to Vinny's family and loved ones. Peace to all of you. - John and Felice Catalano

Vinny's family and friends, most who have known him all his life or since childhood, know and understand the good and bad times he experienced.
In times of reflection, Vinny, through endearing letters to his loved ones, expressed his appreciation and acknowledgement of their love for him and the gifts of love they gave to him. He also expressed remorse and asked for forgiveness for the times he disappointed them. His was truely an inner struggle for which no one could reach in and heal the depth of his pain. We all bear the sorrow for that. As I speak for myself, I know others will feel the same, Vinny's passing has released him from his personal pain and he is free now to love himself as he could not fully do so when he was here with us. The love that everyone has felt for him and still feels for him will sustain him for eternity and in turn his love for his family and friends will sustain us. It is my hope that as we write these thoughts and memories about Vinny we can all appreciate that his children, Vincent and Emily, may one day look to our words as a source of compassion, comfort and healing as, in time, they work through their own grieving process.

Glenn Jenkinson posted a condolence
Of my earliest recollection Vinny and I would find our way to the same books in the elementary school library at south grove. we pulled wales and dolphins, sharks and skates, from the shelves, that’s when vinny taught me to take words and construct them, into sentences. Vinny and I had a bond, from early child hood, that no matter what! would never be broken. This is unconditional Love. Yes, it was tested but never broken. throughout the past thirty some odd years like stars we some times move together and some times apart. but mostly together. pardon the expression, we were frick and frack. together with Bobby “Pooch”, Ian “The Mick”, “Drewster”, “B-Man: Bert and of course Jamie “Cip”. and Randy “Harty”. sorry if I forgot any of the Boy’s.
Vinny and I worked together, Vinny always made sure I was paid well. Vinny got me my first job working in a cabinet shop. The truth is some of the best times in my entire life were spent with Vinny. I remember a time in Oyster bay, we were with the “girls” Dolores and Lisa, jet skiing. Vinny found a living starfish and put it in Lisa’s hand, it moved around, I don’t recall ever seeing that kind of excitement in her face! he had a way of bringing joy and happiness, like no other. The Last night we spent we were on the south shore in his boat and he spotted a dolphin swimming near the boat just off the beach, not common and a first for me, that is one of the most special times ever.
I lost touch with him three years ago, about the time I decided to get clean and sober. the day after I received my one year coin Feb. 7th, I received a letter from him and he wanted my support. as you readers know I would have done anything to help him.
I will miss Him for the rest of my life.
God had other plans for him.
God has removed all his troubles and shortcomings, fills the void in Vinny with his Love.
God bless him, be with him, .... always and forever.

My heart goes out to my mother knowing that she lost her companion and the love of her life. I have never seen someone create such joy for her, as well as such sorrow. I know Vinny will always be in her heart. Although their relationship seemed not so perfect from the outside, it made sense to them. She gave all that anyone could give, and if Vinny was thinking with a clear mind, he could have realized he was a very lucky man.
I wish I would have known him better, I wish I would have let him in more.
Vinny-may you find happiness and peace where you are.

"There are places I remember
all my life, though some have changed, some forever not for better, some have gone and some remain.
All these places have their moments, lovers and friends I still can recall,
some are dead and some are living. IN MY LIFE I LOVED THEM ALL.
But of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compares with ou.
And these memories lose their meaning, when I think of love as something new.
Though I'll never lose affection, for people or things that went before, I know I'll always stop and think about them,
In my life I loved you more....

The Rain Song
This is the spring time of my loving-
the second season I am to know
You are the sunlite in my glowing-
so little warmth I felt before.
It insn't hard to feel me glowing-
I watched the fire that grew so low.
It is the summer of my smiles-
flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes
it is to you I give this tune.
It isn't hard to recognise-
These things are clear to all from time to time.
Talk Talk-
I felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go
I cursed the gloom that set upon us
but I know that I Love You so.
but I know that I Love You so.
These are the seasons of emotion And like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion-
I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient-
Upon us all a little rain must fall.
........
with our deepest Love for You Vinny. May GOD be with You always and forever.

To our "BIG BROTHER" who had a heart of gold. Through all our years growing up filled with love, our fights over toys, playing wiffleball with all our neighborhood friends in the middle of the street, getting into trouble and being sent to our rooms until dinner time, making tents out of sheets in the backyard to campout in,iceskating for hours during an overfreeze one winter, playing football on the front lawn, tickling each other on the bunkbeds for hours we laughed so hard it hurt and we cried only to do it all over again! We will remember all the struggles and triumphs in his life.We will remember his love for each and everyone of us as he will live on through and within all of us, no matter what. Vinny,we love you and we know you are truly at peace now. Will always remember your free spirit, your rebel side, your beautiful face, and that Vinny smile! People have different views on the mores of propriety. I tried to write what was in my heart, but it somehow disappeared.
Anyway, Vinny, I can't help but believe that the "better place" for you was here on earth with me, your daughter, your friends and family. Our motto during sad times was "it's the little things that count." A beautiful day, a good steak, a passionate interlude. Had you given yourself the chance, these little things might have become enough. Anyway my poor poor boy, nothing will ever taste or feel or smell the same without you. My sons Last Gift To Me
(Ltr. dated 2-19-06)
Dearest Mother,
My love for you goes deeper than you will ever know... Here are some of the reasons:
Your warm hands stroking my head as I fall back to sleep after bad dreams.
How you wet your fingers to clean my face before going into church on Sunday.
How Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and all special days were extra special with your "special touch".
The way you took time to show me how to do my homework.
Trini Lopez, Gloria Gaynor and so many others on the phonograph gave me a special love of music.
The way you sang Doris Day songs as I drifed off to sleep.
Your patience at Sears trying on clothes for school with an uncooperative me resisting all the way!
The care you took in choosing where to live based on the best schools for us to go to.
Having the courage to make a better life for us as a single parent. Struggling working nites so you could go to school to better yourself and our way of life.
The mandatory cleaning of my room on Saturday morning in hopes I too would be a neat freak!
Trying to talk to me about the dangers of drugs and how they took some of your friends growing up.
The love you always had for me even when I did the wrong thing.
Having the courage and strength not to let me in the house in hopes of teaching me to be a man.
Making my wedding day special... magical... unforgettable. The best day of my life.
I love you with every breath I take in this life. You are my mother, my hero and my best friend.
Love Always
Vincent

I love you man you were always there for me and I just hope you will continue to be there for me in my heart always. Good Morning Son,
I want to wish you a "Happy Birthday". I know it will be a SPECIAL DAY for you in Heaven!! Hope you have time to visit the new garden that I made for you called "Vinnys Place". It's filled with flowering bushes and trees and some special antiques you will love. I restored the bench myself and the antique bicycle has a pot of sunflowers in the seat and YOU the ORANGE BUTTERFLY sitting on the handlebars. My birthday gift to you is next to the bench .... did I ever forget! It's a memorial stone with a beautiful angel praying over it - the stone inscription reads:
"If Tears Could Build a Stairway, And Memories a Lane, I'd Walk Right Up To Heaven And Bring You Home Again." .... But Vin, you know I wouldn't WALK I would RUN & Emily would be RUNNING right beside me!!
You will live in my heart until we are together again.
Happy 42d Birthday Son!
