Obituary of Douglas N. Axman
Axman, Douglas N.- of Huntington Station, New York passed away on September 14, 2025. He was born on April 28, 1951 in New Hyde Park, New York to his parent Julius and Margaret Axman. He attended and wrestled at Walt Whitman High School, State University at Farmingdale, State University at Brockport and received a master’s degree from Adelphi University. He was a great teacher, administrator and longtime wrestling coach and changed many lives with his dedication and love of the sport. He was very proud to have achieved fifty years of administrative and coaching service to wrestling. Over his storied career he was recognized as:
N C W C A Conference Coach of the Year ~ 1994 ~ 1995 ~ 1997
N C W C A Deputy Chief Ray Downey Sr. Assistant Coach of the Year Award ~ 2010 & 2012
Inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame ~ Life Time Service Award to Wrestling~ 2017
Inducted into the Locust Valley Athletic Hall of Fame ~ 2017
Doug was a loyal and loving person spending 27 years as a teacher and school administrator where he found lifelong friends amongst his coaching buddies and changed the lives of many students and athletes. He loved to spend time with family and friends, holiday celebrations, days on the beach, never turned down a good cookie, practical joke or story about the good old days. He is survived by his brother Stephen Axman and sister in-law Marie Axman and their daughters Mary Beth Schuld, Jaclyn Grainger, Melissa Axman and Kimberly Manson. Also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
Visiting on Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass St. Dominic RC Chapel, 96 Anstice Street, Oyster Bay, NY on Thursday, 10:30 a.m. Entombment Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Old Westbury, NY. Reception to follow at Tap Room Jericho, 1 Jericho Tpke., Jericho, NY 11753 at approximately 1 p.m.
