"My heartfelt condolences to the DiGennaro family on the passing of a true giant. Coach D, as my fellow Lehman basketball players and I affectionately called him, was more than just a coach—he was a father figure to all of us. Despite being only a few years older, he imparted invaluable life lessons.
While I’d like to believe I was Coach D’s favorite basketball player, I know many others would contest that claim. As one of his star players, I often found myself on the court for extended periods. Throughout my senior year, he entrusted me with guarding the opposing team’s best players. While my offense was solid, my defense truly shone.
The news of Coach D’s passing weighed heavily on my heart, but I’ll forever cherish the privilege of being one of his players and later, one of his colleagues at Lehman.
Allow me to introduce myself: I am Wayne Naylor, and I had the honor of both playing for and teaching at Lehman College (formerly known as Hunter College Uptown)."
