I caddied for Pete at the qualifying for the US Amateur in 1960(?) at the Garden City Golf Club. He started 2,2 with an eagle on #1 and a birdie on #2. Alas, a thunderstorm in the middle of the first nine wiped out his 3-under start. Decades later at the Senior Annual banquet, we were seated together. I reminded him of that eagle/birdie start. He rolled his eyes, laughed, and pounded the table in mock frustration. Pete was a true gentleman athlete. Rest In peace. Joel W. Johnson
