Obituary of Jerome Caterson McDonough

McDonough, Jerome Caterson “Jerry” - of East Norwich, NY, on May 31, 2022, in his 91st year.  Beloved husband of 66 years to Patricia.  Loving father of Mary Kearney (William) and Joseph.  Cherished grandfather of Jaclyn, Emily, Liam and Nicholas.  Proud great grandfather of Gisele, Giovanna and Madison.

Jerry was born and raised in Brooklyn Heights, NY.  He graduated from St. Augustine High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University and earned a master’s degree from Columbia University.  He was a proud Navy Veteran of Korea having trained at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Bainbridge MD, 1st Regiment, Company 67.  Employed as a newspaper journalist early in his career, his love of sports led him to the position of Parks and Recreation Director for Nassau County where he was employed for 26 years.  Jerry was a sports enthusiast and avid Brooklyn Dodgers baseball fan.  He enjoyed playing softball and handball and was a dogged chess competitor.  Most of all Jerry loved spending time with his family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic RC Chapel, Oyster Bay, NY on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.  Internment following LI National Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY. www.oysterbayfuneralhome.com
