I just heard of Peter’s passing at a Bar Association Golf Outing. I considered Peter my best friend at law school (I don’t know if he’d agree). I had little touch with my law school friends after graduation, including Peter. Peter and I always laughed together, which I treasure. He loved laughter. My belated condolences to his family for the loss of a lovely man. Mark Manus.

I´m confident that I was Peter Bower´s oldest friend because we met when we were either 3 or 4 years old in about 1957 when our respective families moved to Westbury. We became inseparable shortly after and even graduated from kindergarten together.
We once became business partners for a day when we decided to sell rocks that we split with a hammer. We weren´t allowed to cross a street back then so our potential customers all lived in one of the 28 houses that made up our block. We pulled Peter´s red wagon filled with rocks and went door to door. Business was not brisk needless to say and we abandoned the effort about halfway around the block.
Our close friendship never diminished or ended despite long periods apart as we each followed our separate paths through life. We shared so much in those early years and nothing could get in the way of a friendship that lasted over more than 60 years. When Peter tracked me down just a few months ago we immediately fell into a back and forth exchange of those earliest memories, challenged each other´s memories and filled in the gaps. It may have been almost twenty years since we had last been together but to tell the truth, I really never felt that we were apart at all. He was my best friend. He was always in my heart and I know that he always will be.

Peter was part of the entirety of my professional life. In the past 5 years I had the wonderful experience of partnership with this man who truly defined integrity, talent, empathy and meticulous attention to detail. I admired him as an attorney and treasured him as a partner.
On a personal level, I knew Peter equally long. We watched our daughters learn to ride horses together and sat side by side reading transcripts together at the show ring. His beloved wife Donna and I had the pleasure of riding together ourselves. Peter and I shared a deep love of books and often accidentally met at the bookstore before it became a thing of the past. Tea together and a laugh over our often diverse taste in literature (his was superior for sure!) is such a warm memory.
I have rarely met someone who so openly showed his love and admiration for his wife and children. This was a family, a loving unit, in the true self sense of the word. He was an example of deep caring and commitment to the people in his life.
To say I will miss Peter does not cover the loss I am feeling. He will always live on in me and I will be a better person for all he taught me about being a lawyer and an exceptional man.
My love and condolences to Donna, McKenzie and Caroline. He always spoke of you with a smile of delight on his face, showing so clearly that you were his world.

There are no words that could capture the true gravity of this loss. A man, who despite obstacles and the adversarial nature of litigation, always wanted the best for everyone. He fought for every client. He pushed every attorney and staff member within our office to be the best they could be. A contagious smile like no other. An upbeat person who never accepted defeat and taught us all. This deer, dear friend of mine will be truly missed. I will carry on his legacy to the best of my ability. I will teach others what he taught me. I will always have my door open for people who have questions. If I don’t have the answers, I will find them. Peter was measured in his responses and steadfast in his humor and love for life. A giant of the profession and a giant in my life. Gone too soon. It is not enough to say “he will never be forgotten” or “we will always remember him.” That is not enough. His dedication to his employees, every client he ever had and his family deserves to be honored with actions not just memories and well wishes. Peter, I adore you. I will
