Gene was a wonderful man and this tribute truly embodied how very special he was. I shall miss our conversations . How richly blest we were to have known him . I met Gene on the first day of high school and we remained good friends while at Brooklyn Prep and then as life guards at Breezy Point. We, and Ben, were lucky to meet Jane, Jule, and Janet and the six of us had many laughs and fun dates at Breezy Point and later as married couples. My brother Charlie and his family were good friends as well and the families often got together. I have such great memories of our times at Brooklyn Prep and Breezy Point and I hope that your memories of him help you during this sad time. Jack Weis

What an amazing life - Gene was an incredibly accomplished attorney, a leader of the bar, a dedicated leader in his community and a loving family member. He leaves behind a rich legacy. I will miss his enthusiasm and good cheer, his warmth and his wisdom. My condolences to the entire Souther family on behalf of The Fordham Law community. Gene was a giant and we will miss him. No greater example of a life well lived than in his stellar obituary, written with great love and pride by his wonderful big Irish Catholic family. I am so sorry for you all that the lion has passed. He has been on my mind for a couple of years, most often during Covid; I am glad that he survived it, and am sure that this was in no small measure his honor and privilege to have such a loving family surrounding him.
