My dearest Barbara,
I am so sorry we couldn't be there in person to give Jim his sendoff. It was a beautiful mass and I'm really happy to have attended virtually. You and your kids and grands amaze me with your speaking abilities in your time of sorrow.
We love you. Terri and Bob

Uncle Jim was always a commanding yet supportive and nurturing presence throughout my life. He was a mentor in many things ranging from choosing a college to having a sense of humor. I will miss him greatly, and will miss his loving smirk. I wish I could have been at the service today in person but covid thwarted me. My best wishes and condolences to Barb and all the Tinis.

Dear Barb and family, Please accept my heartfelt sympathy . James truly did live a full life. Between his many career and civic contributions, he impacted many people in your community.
His rich life with his family was a gift to you all. How fortunate for you that you were able to be with him and that he recognized members of his family. My sister and I were with my dad when he passed from Alzheimer's. We derived great comfort from our presence at his death. His smile was God's gift to you all. Sincerely, Judy Pompei-Miller

During our training with the D.C. National Guard, Jim and I met in June, 1969 at the Army Military Police School in Augusta, Georgia. He shared the bunk next to mine. When not performing our other duties, we spent a lot of time shooting the breeze and spit shining our boots. I was fortunate that our relationship did not end there. While he worked for Nassau Legal Aid, I worked in the DA's office and we continued our friendship, albeit without the polish or the boots. Over the years we would run into each other and I think both of us felt a special bond because of the time we served together. Starting more than 50 years ago, it was clear to me that Jim was a warm fun special person. Please accept my condolences. Allan Stern

I am so deeply saddened to learn of Jim's passing. I first met Jim when I became an assistant district attorney and he was a trial attorney with the Legal Aid Society. He was a wonderful attorney - extremely knowledgeable, exceptionally gracious, highly ethical and genuinely respected by everyone - judges, law secretaries, clerks, prosecutors, etc. He gave freely of his knowledge and taught me a great deal. I can remember when I took my first plea in County Court. I really wasn't too sure how to file and process the waiver of indictment and the superior court information. Jim quietly walked me through the process while his client stood by quietly observing the tutorial. Over the years, we continued interacting on a professional level when Jim served as law secretary to Judge John Thorpe, of happy memory, as partner to Tom Mason, and as law secretary to Judge John Case. He was a wonderful human being, and we are diminished by his passing. Requiescat in pace.

Mr. Tini was the sweetest man ever. Driving in the Jeep with the top off to baseball games will always be some of my fondest memories growing up on CI. I loved when he would call me ‘lad’. His warmth and compassion stick with me to this day.

I remember Jim from the 1960s when he was a student at CUA. He would spend many weekends with me and stay at Guida and Don Merendino’s house in Silver Spring, MD. We had some memorable times going to movies (Dr. Strangelove) and parties. He was a good friend and I am sorry that I lost contact with him. May he Rest In Peace.

About a year or so ago, I had the opportunity to spend a day with Barbara and Jim, as I was their guide to all the Mercer neighborhoods to visit the Homesteads of several ancestors. I was also the videographer as Barbara hosted the tour. Well, Jim was quite lucid at that time, and we talked nonstop for hours as Barbara tried to get us to concentrate on what we were doing. Kinda special day for all of us, as we ended up at the Migalliard Ave. McClain House.
