Obituary of Esperanza Mantilla
Mantilla Calderon, Esperanza "Hope" (1933-2017)
It is with deep and overwhelming sadness that we announce that Hope has passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on September 20th, 2017 in her 84th year. Hope leaves behind her daughter Claudia Ravins, her grandchildren; Ariana, Alexandra and Jordan Ravins, and her sister Esther Mantilla. She will be sadly missed by friends and family members alike.
Hope was a wonderful role model. She showed determination and courage in the face of adversity and taught us to be forward thinking. She was a dedicated member of the foreign service community, serving a long career at the Colombian Consulate as Vice Consul. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed active participation in the lives of her family. After she retired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs she dedicated herself to the care of her grandchildren. She was an invaluable asset to her daughter in raising her children, allowing Claudia to grow professionally as a physician.
Though she was ravaged by medical illness that left her mind and body debilitated over the past fifteen years, she fought valiantly everyday, and fought to remain an asset to her family. For this we shall always be grateful
