Joseph Bernardo Sr. died from surgical complications early morning March 4, 2016 23 days before his 83rd birthday.Beloved husband of Ashley and the late Barbara. Loving father of Joseph Jr. (Valerie DeLisa), Robert (Joan), Richard (Karen), and Kenneth. Cherished grandfather of Philip (AnaMarie Gordillo), Robert Jr. (Meghan), Daniel, Pamela (Torrance Parker), Christina (Michael Jones), and Joseph F. (Jennifer). Proud great grandfather of Luca, Dylan, and Leo. Born in Brooklyn in 1933 Joe was a civil engineering graduate of Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and his first job was an engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. While working for the Corps of Engineers and managing the three cranes in the current Bay Crane inventory that his father had managed it was his insurance broker at the time who encouraged Joe to make a hard decision to focus on his job at the Army Corp of Engineers or to resign and focus on the 3 cranes that he was partners with brother Sonny and sister Madeline with. At this point he made his life decision to dedicate himself to the company with his family Bay Crane. He worked tirelessly for his entire life to build a company that today is within the top 10 of its type in the United States. Seven day work weeks were common for Joe and his values and principles and dedication are the backbone of the company that he worked so hard to build for almost 60 years.
