I am friend of Dennis from St Ed's and I live in Wilmington, Delaware. I would talk to Dennis every Christmas after he received our Smith family Christmas letter. I kept in touch and was hoping to get together with him now that I retired this past summer. I had called him earlier to tell him that my daughter Maddie was now a freshman at St. Ed's. Dennis would have been excited. My family visited Dennis on Long Island back when Maddie was about 3 and Dennis loved children and made a big fuss about her. When I tried to call today and the phone was disconnected, I googled Dennis only to see the bad news. I just want to express mt condolences to his family. He would always give me an update on the family. I visited Dennis' family in Bayville while I was at St Ed's and I will never forget Dennis' mother. She said "Smitty, you were company last night when you arrived, but this morning your are family so help out with the dishes". We have a beach house in Lewes Delaware where we have a house full of company most weekends and I use that line all the time! I just happy to have had Dennis as a friend!

So sorry to hear the sad news.
Dennis was one of those unforgettable characters. Most of my memories were of the fun times we had when we were kids. My family spent August in Bayville and my brother and sister would hang out with Joseph, Karen and Dennis. I think Dennis was around ten and I was twelve, we all rowed across the creek to Mill Neck, hiked up the hill and jumped into a beautiful pool on an estate. The owner, very upset, called the police, we almost made it back down the hill, caught, and brought back home in a police car. The owner just couldn't believe that we had the whole bay to swim in and had to violate his pool.
Remembering those carefree summer days.

So very sorry to hear about the passing of Dennis. I had known Fran Ferger since I was a kid, but didn't meet Dennis until I bought my house 18 years ago. He was my mortgage broker, and an incredible guy. Condolences to the family.

Dan Cignoli called yesterday to let me know about the passing of Dennis. I was so sad to hear about the loss of one of our St. Ed's brothers. There was a group of us in the class of 1971 that were inseparable during our first two years of college. Dennis had a wonderful sense of humor, and a great big heart. He fixed our cars as he was a gifted mechanic and would share his knowledge with warmth and kindness to those of us would not know how to open the hood. We often drove together back and forth from Austin to New York for holidays, and sometimes I would ride in Poncho his beloved car. What is interesting to me is that I though of Dennis on Saturday as I attended a Beatles exhibit in Austin and thought of the White Album he borrowed from me way back when. During reunions he would remind me that he still had the album. I actually gave it to him but he joked with me that he wanted to get it back along with an old sweater he borrowed once. I though wow when I come to New York I will call him and rib him about the album. That was just a few days ago, and he was on my mind for the first time in many years. I know Denis is in heaven enjoying lots of music. I have so many memories of him and all of us from those wonderful days of college.
Rest in Peace my St. Eds brother
