My warmest regrets to Michaels family. Michael was one of the strongest big hearted guys you could know. He never turned a friend away, always involving himself where others had needs. I am very sorry to know that I have lost this dear friend who has always had a special place in my Heart. I know that the chosen are the first to go, but our sweet big and strong Michael? I guessed he would always be around, frequently bumping into one another, hehe what a great guy, even sitting here thinking of him, I have a large grin on my face. With all the Sincerest Love of a Friend, goodbye Michael..be seeing you again.

Michael Motyka posted a condolence
Bons,
This is your long time best friend MO. What can one say at this point? A lose for anyone is such a hard event to endure but I feel I must make a statement for this event which has undoubtedly affected so many who have come in contact with Gudi. I can't call him "Ski" as his brothers in arms have done here, but I know the lose they must be feeling. When I first met you my longest running female friend, I knew we would cement a bond which not many people form. You are a pillar of caring, giving, and love that not many people I have met throughout my life can offer without seeking anything in return. You are a beautiful person on this God's Earth and that is what I feel Gudi saw in you. When you first told me you met the man who would be by your side and was your "other half" and soul mate, I was protective but hopeful in your assessment of this man. When I first met Michael, his charm, warmth, strength and general gentleness put me at ease, as I sensed this man is a good person who will embrace all that you have to offer in a relationship and will honor the position he was at the time attempting to fulfill as the man in your life. On numerous occasions after your wedding I had the opportunity to spend time with Gudi while he was attending the Art Basel Art Show in Miami and stayed with me on multiple occasions over the weekend of the event over the two years he attended the event.
While tirelessly standing post on the trade show floor and having the fortitude after 14 hour days of tolerating my need to entertain him with local knowledge of restaurants, single malt scotch and Cuban cigars, he; as the enduring SF's guy that he was... with sleep deprivation training that I could only hope to achieve as a gracious guest whom no matter what, endured my quest to show him South Beach... even after his 14 hour days on his feet, still never lost his ability to engage and be part of my hospitality to him even though he probably wanted to just sleep. That was Michael in a nutshell, the man who can deal with any situation no matter what. During our multiple weekends over two consecutive Art Basel's he showed me endurance, strength, commitment to his trade and most of all some "crazy SF make a guy pass out moves" I continually requested he show me (near my sofa) that I will never forget. He was one in a million... He was a beautiful person... He was a man's man... and he was my friend...
I will miss all that he was and is and I hope that this small glimpse into my exposure to him will show you how much he meant, not only to you, Chase and all who have crossed his path, but to me, who honor and will cherish the man, and his memory.
All my Love,
Mo

Dearest Michael, From the day I met you, I knew you were not only a kind and decent man, but a caring individual. We were so fortunate to have known a man who reached out and gave his all - never asking for anything in return. It goes without saying, your passion for life and service to our country was the utmost in your world. Knowing a man who did just about everything there was to do, was an honor and a priviledge. I will always remember with a smile, mountain climbing with you in Palm Desert. It was a challenge for me, but you made it ever so easy. Your precious son Chase has a tremendous legacy left for him. Both you and Bonnie are so blessed to have this precious boy. He is such a joy to be with and has become the King of my home. Whenever he stays with me, the master bedroom is his domain and I get to sleep in the spare room. Just goes to show you what a clever boy he is. No one expected you to leave us so soon Michael, and no one will understand why, God has a plan for all of us and we must follow the path He leads us to. All the people you came in contact with will agree that you were a Gentle Giant and there wasn't a task you could not undertake. Rest in Peace dear Michael and know just how much everyone loved you. You will be forever in our hearts. Pray for us.

Bonnie, I was so saddened to hear of Michael's passing into a new place. Loss is always so confusing with questions that will continue to go unanswered for as long as you shall live. But as you already know keep his memories alive in your heart and in the life of Chase. Be patient and be brave and allow yourself to mourn. We are all here for you. Most importantly, keep encouraging Chase to catch his "angel" in his net. Actually, I'm sure he has already caught him. Please know that I'm here if you or Chase need me - I'm very close by. I love you! God bless. xoxo Your cousin, Michelle

I am deeply saddened by your unexpected exit Michael and will always keep your spirit close to my heart. Although I came into your life only few years ago, I feel like you were my brother and one of my very best friends. The times spent with you Bonnie and Chase were memories I will always cherish as there were some good times esp in Palm Desert. I always admired how much you were loved in the community and one of my fondest memories is watching you spin the ladies on the dance floor, young and old...you were always the life of the party. The art world will miss you. You were so good at everything you did! I am so sorry the past few years were difficult for you.

Gudie:
This is me. Where are you? I’m breathing like you told me to. Not sure why God needed you now but it must be for a very special mission. I told our son that you had to go help God take care of more people and Chase has made you into a “Good Ghost” in his room. You come in the car with us now, and go to school with him, and eat at the table with him, and play soccer. It is so precious Mike.
Although this last year has been so hard for us, only you and I will ever know what a great life we had together in our past. I’m so so glad I documented our time together, so I can show our son all the wonderful places we went and lived, and the great experiences we shared together. We accomplished more together than anyone could imagine in their own lifetime. But, the greatest adventure of all, a little mini us! How lucky we are too be blessed with a son. He is so kind and thoughtful and loving. You know I will take care of him for you always, and will honor your wishes as we discussed.
I just wanted you to know that I received over 160 emails so far, from friends and acquaintances around the country and in Europe, sending their affections, shock and disappointment, but also reminding me of all the good times that were shared. It was so nice to be reminded once again.
I am glad I won’t be missing you, because you are going to be right by my side now (sitting on my mantle), I got my wish to finally have you home and grounded…..Ha! We will take you to visit the rest of your family too! You taught me how to live day by day. I taught you how to stay on coarse and finish the job. Great teamwork buddy! How proud I was to stand behind you, and guide you at the same time. That was our true partnership. No one can take that from us. You made me a very proud woman Michael and I worked so hard to help you be the best you could have been.
You wore so many hats in my life, my friend first and foremost, my business partner, marriage partner, and parent partner, and now full circle, right back to the beginning, a friendship again to get me prepared for the next journey in my life, a life without you. You always found a way to steer me in the right direction and I hope you know how much I appreciated this. We took care of each other very privately and I will respect that as I move forward.
As you now stand on the outside of my life, you have never left me on the inside. Thank God you prepared me for this. I will abide by your wishes for your journey to heaven, and make sure you are safe and protected as I always have done.
PS: I know we were spending Christmas together this year just us with our boy, and that still will happen. You forgot to tell Chase where you hid my Christmas present. It’s in our house and I can’t find it! Send me a hint will you please!
I love you and always will Gudie. I do know you will be loving me too from above and by the way; our son now has a net in his room and keeps catching you as you fly by. You need bigger wings honey.
Life is tricky. I believe people meet for a reason for however long that may be. Our time is up cowboy. See you on the prairie my love. Good bye my hero, your wife and friend forever - Bonnie

How do you define the word friend? Does it constitute when two people meet? Is it based on the lenght of time two people know each other, or is it just a mutual understanding of one anothers thoughts, beliefs, and goals that they wish to achieve in life. I do not have the answer to that, but if it means spending weeks and months with someone and it goes by like days on a calender, it probably means your in good company. I will miss mike's great company and I feel like I just lost my best friend.
No more pain, no more worries, you get to take all the love with you.
